Community Events Update

It's been a busy couple of weeks for OE987 - we are proud to represent our members at community events that matter to them. Read on to see where OE987 has been!

Save the Concordia ER Rally

If you follow us on social media (Facebook and Twitter), then you know OE987 has been actively campaigning to keep the Concordia ER open. This is a crucial issue for members of northeast Winnipeg as they are in danger of losing their access to 24/7 emergency access care.

On Wednesday, May 11th, OE987 was proud to join the Save the Concordia ER group to protest the impending closure as a rally outside the hospital itself. The rally was a huge success, with many community members, local activists, and labour unions in attendance. It was an opportunity for everyone to come together and let the government know that closing the ER will not improve patient care.

Manitoba Nurses Union 'Put Patients First' Rally

On May 1st, OE987 stood on the steps of the Manitoba Legislature to gather in solidarity with the Manitoba Nurses Union. The annual Put Patients First Rally called on the provincial government to stop cuts to our healthcare system. These cuts affect not only nurses, but all healthcare workers, including many of our members.

Safe Work Manitoba Day of Mourning Leaders' Walk

On April 26th, numerous OE987 members came together to walk in memory of workers who have lost their lives or been injured on the job. This annual event brought labour unions from across the province together in solidarity.

It was particularly meaningful for OE987 members as we mourned Todd Maytwayashing, a member who tragically lost his life on the job in early 2018. Every worker has a right to come home safe from their workplace, and we need to stand together to advocate for safe conditions for all.

Be sure to follow OE987 on Facebook and Twitter to hear more about upcoming events! We love seeing our members come out to show support!
